The 26-year-old man and 20-year-old woman found within a flat on Sunday morning have been named locally in Milngavie, Scotland, as Gerry Mooney and Bethany McManus.

Police are probing the sudden deaths and are currently treating them as “unexplained.”

Heartbroken friends described Bethany as a “lovely” friend who would be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Friends said they would cherish memories of Gerry forever.

Posting a heartfelt tribute to Bethany on social media, one friend said: “I’m lost for words here. I’m in shock with this.”

“All the memories we had were amazing. Don’t know how we saw so much of each other because we was always grounded.”

The friend added: “You had been through so much in such a short time. Your life hadn’t really began and you’re gone. You will truly be missed by many people. Things will never be the same without you. You’re my best friend.

“This morning my heart just dropped and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing or seeing. Sleep tight my beautiful friend you will always be remembered. I just cant believe it.”

Another devastated friend added: “Can not actually believe what I heard a few hours ago that you are gone.

“Bethany Mcmanus you were one of the most funniest people I’ve ever known, we were always in fits of laughter. Up to mischief all the way through school and causing hassle.

“We have so many memories and laughs together.

“I’m in so much shock that you are actually gone. I was speaking to you 3 days ago, we were talking how different things are now compared to years ago.

“You are going to be so missed. Rest in peace beautiful girl.”

Heartbroken friends of Gerry, who is believed to have been a personal trainer, said they would cherish memories as they paid tribute to the 26-year-old.

“RIP Gerry Mooney. A very good childhood friend of mines and many others.

“We lost touch but anytime I seen you when I was over at my mums you would wave me down and always full of chat and wanting to know where I’d been or what I’ve been up to.

“Was literally just talking about you a few weeks ago to Claire talking about the good old times. Taken far young and too soon. You had your whole life ahead of you.

“Rest in peace my friend till we meet again.”

One said: “Honestly can’t believe I’m writing this absolutely gutted man no words. RIP Gerry Mooney. The memories will last a life time mate fly high.”
